Your 100 Fan Club
Your 100 Fan Club The more established I get, the more disentangled I appear to need my life. That is the reason I mitigated FundsforWriters throughout the years from four pamphlets, to three, to two. . . furthermore, presently one, much the same as I began years prior. More opportunity to compose. More opportunity to have a good time while composing. I love losing myself in a story. In any case, advertising, distributing, etc will in general occupy us and deny us of the delight. Atâ a ongoing meeting speaker, I addressed scholars about corralling all the to-get things done on their plates and figuring out how to concentrate on composing. I recommended they do what Im doing. . . compose for their most enthusiastic 100 fans. You know who those are. They are the ones who audit, who react to your blog, who talk with you on Facebook, who like your Instagram posts. They dont simply state they love your work, however they talk it, naming characters and plot focuses that impacted them. Why only 100? Since those are your concentrated portion of vitality. You have a superior vibe for what they like. Since theyve reached you some way or another, you feel a couple of degrees closer to them. You owe them more, and thusly, they convey back with surveys, messages, and that very valuable verbal exchange to others about you and your accounts. Essentially your composition. Compose the narratives that you think your best 100 will adore. Dont have 100? In the event that you continue showing up face to face, via web-based networking media, recorded as a hard copy visitor posts on web journals, that 100 will appear. On the off chance that you continue composing and quit betting on one book. On the off chance that you continue reminding the couple of you have in a pamphlet who you are (abstaining from saying BUY MY BOOK), that 100 will occur. Who doesnt feel warm and comfortable having 100 fans? What's more, that number becomes quicker the more you take into account that clan. Theyll for all intents and purposes spread the news for you.

Triage by scott anderson essays
Triage by scott anderson articles The epic, Triage, by Scott Anderson, narratives war photojournalist Mark Walsh's encounters as he battles through the hardships of his occupation and the difficulties of day by day life. By joining subjects, for example, blame, absolution, the nature of current war, and feeling of having a place, Anderson can connect characters and make complex equal stories while keeping up an engaging plot. At the point when Mark is hit by a cannons shell in Kurdistan his reality is flipped around. He endures however his closest companion Colin doesn't. Colins last wish is to be reclaimed to New York, yet in horrendous unforeseen development, Mark winds up leaving Colin for dead to help his own endurance. He is taken to the Harir Cave, where Ahmet Talzani, the specialist at the emergency clinic, rehearses Triage, where your destiny is chosen by an arrangement of plastic, shading coded labels. His framework was straightforward, in the event that you got a red tag, at that point you would be dealt with, a yellow, and be disregarded, yet a blue implied passing. Talzani realizes he has no opportunity to choose wether an individual can be restored or not, there are excesses of harmed coming in the result of war. OK accept that occasionally I am so worn out, or the cavern is so dim, I am not even certain about the hues I give them? My little labels are for them, since they have to accept ther e is a framework. For me I realize it is all destiny. It is from him that we find out about the idea of present day war. There is no example to who lives and who passes on in war... In war, individuals bite the dust since they do. Present day war is more about capability than labor. Gone are where scenes were loaded up with infantry assaulting each other in the majority. This is supplanted with mounted guns, tanks, helicopters, and contender planes. Talzani has a feeling of having a place, as he says: Homeland. It doesnt matter what you do or what you accept, you never get away from the country. They discuss unrestrained choice yet we are for the most part homing pigeons ... <!

New Student Photo Series 2010 Post #22 COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog
New Student Photo Series 2010 Post #22 COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog There is still plenty of time for new students to submit photos for the blog. This is a great way to share about some of your experiences and get to know you new classmates. Submission information here. ___________________________ The photos today are from Priyam Saraf, an incoming MPA student. ___________________________ Ganges, the largest river in India passes through my hometowm, Kolkata. I like this picture because it captures the two faces of the Ganges a spiritual lifeline where hundreds of devotees go to pray and take a dip in the river and the centre of commerce/transport for many people. However, years of neglect and industrial discharge currently make it one of the most polluted rivers in India necessitating government efforts for clean up. I backpacked through Vietnam this summer and this is a picture of the Reunification express that connects Saigon in South Vietnam to Hanoi in the North. During the War, this track was the target of bombardments and was severely damaged. It was restored post fall of Saigon in 1975-1976. The train is frequently used by the middle class in Vietnam, esp. if they are travelling heavy. For a traveller, its a lovely way to witness rapid landscape changes from south to the north, taste local cuisines at station-stops and exchange stories with co-passengers. A self sufficient entity in Hue where they conserve their plants, grow vegetables, educate young monks and teach them a vocational skill. I find Vietnam fascinating preserve old practices while working hard to be one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.

Destruction of Jerusalem Predicted by Ashkelons Fall
The Destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. caused the period in Jewish history known as the Babylonian Exile. Ironically, as with the prophets warnings in the book of Jeremiah in the Hebrew Bible, Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar also gave the Jews fair warning of what could happen, if they crossed him, in the way he devastated Ashkelon, the capital of their enemies, the Philistines. The Warning from Ashkelon New archaeological findings in the ruins of Ashkelon, Philistias main seaport, are providing evidence that Nebuchadnezzars conquest of his enemies was utterly merciless. If Judahs kings had heeded the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah about imitating Ashkelon and embracing Egypt, Jerusalems destruction might have been avoided. Instead, the Jews ignored both the religious rantings of Jeremiah and the unequivocal real-world implications of Ashkelons fall. In the late 7th century B. C., Philistia and Judah were battlegrounds for the power struggle between Egypt and a resurgent neo-Babylonia to take over the remnants of the late Assyrian Empire. In the mid-7th century B.C., Egypt made allies of both Philistia and Judah. In 605 B.C, Nebuchadnezzar led Babylonias army to a decisive victory over Egyptian forces at the Battle of Carchemish on the Euphrates River in what is now western Syria. His conquest is noted in Jeremiah 46:2-6. Nebuchadnezzar Fought Through the Winter After Carchemish, Nebuchadnezzar pursued an unusual battle strategy: he continued to wage war through the winter of 604 B.C., which is the rainy season in the Near East. By fighting through sometimes torrential rains despite the hazards posed to horses and chariots, Nebuchadnezzar proved to be an unorthodox, persistent general capable of unleashing terrifying devastation. In a 2009 article titled The Fury of Babylon for the Biblical Archaeology Societys e-book, Israel: An Archaeological Journey, Lawrence E. Stager cites a fragmentary cuneiform record called the Babylonian Chronicle: [Nebuchadnezzar] marched to the city of Ashkelon and captured it in the month of Kislev [November/December]. He captured its king and plundered it and carried off [spoil from it ...]. He turned the city into a mound (Akkadian ana tili, literally a tell) and heaps of ruins ...; Evidence Sheds Light on Religion and Economy Dr. Stager writes that the Levy Expedition uncovered hundreds of artifacts at Ashkelon that shed light on Philistine society. Among the items recovered were dozens of large, wide-mouth jars that could hold wine or olive oil. The climate of Philistia in the 7th century B.C. made it ideal to grow grapes for wine and olives for oil. Thus archaeologists now think its reasonable to propose that these two products were the Philistines principal industries. Wine and olive oil were priceless commodities in the late 7th century because they were the basis of food, medicines, cosmetics, and other preparations. A trade agreement with Egypt for these products would have been financially advantageous to Philistia and Judah. Such alliances also would pose a threat to Babylon, because those with wealth could better arm themselves against Nebuchadnezzar. In addition, the Levy researchers found signs that religion and commerce were closely intertwined in Ashkelon. On top of a pile of rubble in ââ¬â¹the main bazaar they found a rooftop altar where incense had been burned, usually a sign of seeking a gods favor for some human endeavor. The prophet Jeremiah also preached against this practice (Jeremiah 32:39), calling it one of the sure signs of the destruction of Jerusalem. Finding and dating the Ashkelon altar was the first time an artifact confirmed the existence of these altars mentioned in the Bible. Sobering Signs of Mass Destruction The archaeologists uncovered more evidence that Nebuchadnezzar was ruthless in conquering his enemies as he was in the destruction of Jerusalem. Historically when a city was besieged, the greatest damage could be found along its walls and fortified gates. In Ashkelons ruins, however, the greatest destruction lies at the center of the city, spreading outward from areas of commerce, government, and religion. Dr. Stager says this indicates that the invaders strategy was to cut off the centers of power and then pillage and destroy the city. This was precisely the way the destruction of Jerusalem proceeded, evidenced by the devastation of the First Temple. Dr. Stager acknowledges that archaeology cant precisely confirm Nebuchadnezzars conquest of Ashkelon in 604 B.C. However, it has proven clearly that the Philistine seaport was utterly destroyed around that time, and other sources confirm the Babylonian campaign of that same era. Warnings Unheeded in Judah The citizens of Judah may have rejoiced to learn of Nebuchadnezzars conquest of Ashkelonà since the Philistines had long been enemies of the Jews. Centuries earlier, David had mourned the death of his friend Jonathan and King Saul in 2 Samuel 1:20, Tell it not in Gath, proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice.... The Jews rejoicing at the Philistines misfortunes would have been short-lived. Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem in 599 B.C., conquering the city two years later. Nebuchadnezzar captured King Jeconiah and other Jewish elitesà and installed his own choice, Zedekiah, as king. When Zedekiah rebelled 11 years later in 586 B.C., Nebuchadnezzars destruction of Jerusalem was as merciless as his Philistine campaign. The primary and support activities of the value chain helps in analyzing which activities add value to the firm and enable it to achieve competitive advantage, the activities which require improvement can be analyzed using Porters Value Chain Model (Boons Ldeke-Freund, 2013). Porters Generic strategies components The Porters generic strategies are used by a business organization to gain competitive advantage. In the cost leadership strategy, costs are eliminated from the activities of the value chain, organizations gain competitive advantage by achieving cost advantage. The sustainability of the organization is assured through lean times because of the low cost strategy of the organization (Teeratansirikool et al., 2013). The differentiation strategy focus on creating differentiated products to target different segments. Variety of products are branded, promoted and priced differently when organizations follow differentiation strategy (Yu et al., 2013). The focused strategy is used by an organization to cater to the needs, requirements and demands of narrow market segment also called niche market segment (Rees Karbing, 2015). Importance of the Porters Generic Strategy The Porters Generic Strategy can be applied to Apple Incorporation to analyze the current strategy for the organization. The current generic strategy that is adopted by Apple Incorporation is focused differentiation strategy. The Apple Incorporation focuses on Research and Development for innovation of the products and developing and upgrading products for existing and emerging markets. Apple Inc uses premium pricing to price the products for niche segments of the market and targets population with high disposable income who are willing to play premium price for products of Apple Inc (Johnson et al., 2013). The current strategies of Apple Incorporation are suitable for the organization. The use of focused differentiation strategy of Porters Generic Strategy is suitable because it helps the organization to develop a premium brand image, the strategy focuses on a niche market and the brand enjoys high Customer Perceived Value (CPV) and has a huge base of loyal customers. The user friendly operating system and the release of better version of product every year, like the launch of iPhone 7 in 2016 and iPhone 8 in 2017 clearly reveals the innovation and creativity adopted by the Company in upgrading features of products. Also premium pricing strategy is suitable for Apple because the highly differentiated products of the Company are only targeted to niche segments of society who are willing to pay premium price to own products of the Company. The current strategy of the organization to outsource manufacturing facilities of products like iphone in low-cost Asian countries to Companies like F oxconn is suitable for Apple Incorporation because it enables the organization to achieve cost advantage in manufacturing The strategies that can be recommended to Apple Inc are as follows Apple Incorporation should focus on developing new products for emerging and existing markets. The extension of product lines will enable the organization to sustain in the market for longer time. For instance, Apple Incorporations new product Apple watch was popular and widely accepted in the market. Similarly Apple Incorporation should develop more products especially technical products to satiate the changing needs of customers. Apple should focus more on horizontal integration Apple should focus on CSR activities. For instance, the firm has an online education store and support for learning through mobiles is provided through iTunes U( for University), however such initiatives should be extended to emerging economies like Brazil, China, India. Apple faces stiff competition from Samsung in emerging markets and CSR initiatives will enhance a good image about the organization in minds of consumers and profitability of the organization will increase indirectly. Evaluation of implementation of strategy The Hubbard Model for implementation of strategies suggests that business organizations should analyze its capabilities like core competency and the environmental factors for implementation of strategies. Also culture, people, systems, structure and leadership of an organization are of paramount importance for the implementation of strategies. The culture and structure of organization should be supportive for implementation of strategy. Employees should be motivated by leaders, budget preparation and utilizing information system are important for implementing strategies (Peppard Ward, 2016). Fig: Hubbard Model Source :( Porter Heppelmann, 2014) Importance of Hubbard Model The Hubbard Model can be applied to Apple Incorporation because the organization already provided innovative products to customers under visionary leadership of Steve Jobs and the organization culture of product differentiation , innovation and creativity should be carried forward in future for strategic implementation. Also current strategy of focused differentiation is achieved by leveraging the manufacturing cost advantage and outsourcing manufacturing facilities in Asian countries (Joo Bettencourt Gomes de Carvalho Simas, Francisco Bertinetti Lengler Jos Dos Santos Antnio, 2013). The organization should take leverage of its strong research and development team and strong balance sheet to bargain with suppliers and achieve cost advantage. This will enable the organization to develop new product line for emerging markets where the infrastructure does not support the products of Apple. Apple Incorporation can also drop the additional features of its products for emerging markets to reduce cost to make these new product lines affordable for the emerging markets (Markides, 2013). There is always excess inventory left with Apple Inc and these inventories should be distributed to the schools in emerging markets to support the cause of education. This will increase the brand awareness and visibility of Apple Incorporation in emerging markets (Porter Heppelmann, 2014). Change management Apple Incorporation manages changes by following its own release cycle, introducing new features slowly and making its operating system user friendly. The organization does not follow competitors and manages changes by clearly communicating the changes to its employees. Performance Measurement The performance of Apple Incorporation can be evaluated using Balance Scorecard Framework. Information should be collected well, business processes should be analyzed to identify waste and bottlenecks, customers perspective should be analyzed and financial performance should be analyzed by Apple Incorporation for evaluating its performance. Fig- Performance of Apple Inc Source: (Peppard Ward, 2016) Key Issues and Recommendation Key issues during strategic management analysis The key issues that are faced by Apple Incorporation are that the organization faces stiff competition from competitors like Samsung in emerging markets because these markets do not have infrastructure to support the devices of Apple, also high price is not affordable for customers in emerging markets. These key issues can be resolved if the brand develops some new product lines for the emerging markets , dropping out some additional features will enable the organization to reduce cost for products of emerging markets. Also, CSR initiatives will increase the brand awareness of the organization in emerging markets. Apple can take leverage of its strong balance sheet and strong bargaining power to achieve cost advantage from suppliers and then utilize this in developing new product lines. Also, extra inventory of Apple can be donated to schools in emerging economy to support education. The key issue of Apple Incorporation of focusing only on vertical integration can be resolved by focu sing on horizontal integration and adding extending the product line of the Company. Apple Incorporation can take leverage of its Research and Development team to focus on Horizontal integration which will enable the organization to sustain competition in the long run in emerging economies. Conclusions It can be concluded that Apple Incorporation has been successful in achieving customer loyalty by maintaining its strong brand image among customers. The organization has focused on innovation and creativity and releases new and upgraded versions of products every year. For instance, United States has been hardly hit by the economic crisis and is contemplating on increasing taxes for the rich. The change in taxation has both positive and negative effects. Introduction The current economic and financial crisis has adversely affected all the countries in the world. Those that have been hard hit by the crisis include the United States of America and European countries. O ther countries, especially developing countries are suffering from the spill over effects. In United States, the effects of this crisis have been evident in various sectors of the economy. The country has been hit by high rates of employment with nearly ten million people registering for the unemployment benefits. The number of people registering in job search centers has increased, with fresh graduates taking the highest percentage. The economy has failed to create new jobs, with jobs lay off mounting by the day. Most industries are streaming their workforce since they cannot adequately meet their needs, such as paying salaries and other benefits. The situation has rendered a high percent of the populace jobless, with most of them having difficulties in paying their bills. Those who are unable to meet their bills have resorted to pegging in streets so at least to get something to sustain them. The suffering of most Americans has not gone unnoticed, with the President Barack Obama c onstantly giving an account of government progress on how the crisis is being handled. The most recent announcement by the President is an increase in the rate of tax for the rich. The tax raise among the rich will lead to an increase in national revenue that can then be used to create jobs at national levels. This move has elicited controversy, with some supporting while others attack the move as inappropriate. It is like taking from those who are rich and distributing it to those who are poor. Despite raising taxes for the rich, taxes for foreign people should be lowered. Discussion Taxation is a fiscal policy tool that government can use in order to have a balanced fiscal budget. The government to attain certain objectives like full employment, price stability and economic growth normally uses fiscal policy. Other policy tools that can be used include printing of money, sell of fixed assets, internal or external borrowing as well as consumption of fiscal reserves.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Taxation is a tool that can be used to rescue an economy facing difficult times. Proper design of a tax policy can be a panacea to the prevailing economic hard times such as unemployment. United State has sought to follow Germanyââ¬â¢s way to rescue its economic from adverse effects of its current debt position. Economist asserts that the only way in which an economy can reverse a crisis is using an expansionary fiscal policy. This will solve the issue of fiscal budget imbalance, unemployment and ââ¬Ëcrowding outââ¬â¢ effect. Conversely, high taxes will look out private companies from investing in the country because of the cost of production which will translates to higher commodity prices. It will be hard for businesses to carry out business in countries with high tax rates. This is because it will render most establishments less competitive in the global market. To encourage foreign investment tax rates should be reduced for them and sometimes coupled with tax havens, allowances and subsidies, this will encourage them to take up their new investment in the economy (Kivel, 2002). Taxation and work incentives When there is an increase in the rate of income tax, the effect will be that the post-tax income of individuals will reduce. This is because the net income resulting from each hour of work will be lower. The move might encourage workers to increase their number of working hours to meet their target income. On the other hand, an increase in tax might be used as a disincentive to promote less work. The government normally sets a lower income tax rate for low-income employees. This will act as an incentive for workers to do their job for long hours and earn more money. Low taxes on low-income earners serve as a tool of reducing ââ¬Ëpoverty trapââ¬â¢ risks where individuals will get high net financial benefits from their work. When tax reforms are favorable, it leads to an increase in supply of labor thus a reduction in unemployment equilibrium rate hence, the growth rate will increase. Taxation and the pattern of demand Demand patterns for goods and services vary as indirect taxes are changed. When value added taxes (VAT) on commodities such as alcohol and cigarettes increase, it is aimed at causing a low consumption among consumers or a substitution effect. The result will be a low demand for such commodities. Indirect taxation can be applicable where there is a total market failure, as well as when the government wants to ensure equitable distribution of resources such as health care.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on The raise of Taxes at the United States specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Taxation and investme nt decisions When the rates of business taxes and corporate tax are low, this can stimulate a business to increase its spending in fixed capital investment. An increase in investment will mean that the capital stock of a nation has increased thus an increase in capital stock of every worker employed (Mankiw, 2011). Government can use incentives such as tax allowances to boost research and development and in encouraging new business developments. A tax regime that is favorable will attract increased inflow of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment). This will be a stimulus that will benefit an economyââ¬â¢s aggregate supply and aggregate demand. Low rates of corporation tax will attract huge amounts of private investment. Tax changes act as a stimulus of investment in capital assets, social infrastructure, and labor force skills as well as in technology. A good tax system will ensure an improvement in infrastructure, which is essential for economic growth through increased production and competitiveness. Government spending can be terms of development of an education system that is skills oriented and technology focused. This will ensure a steady long-term supply of human resources (Dye, 2011). Companyââ¬â¢s risk attitude and corporate income tax are the main factors that are considered by an organization before making an investment decisions, this is because this factors can affect the rate of return on investment. Amount of corporate tax to be paid is an important factor that is taken into consideration before making a financial investment decision. This is because low taxes will mean lower prices for goods and higher revenue generated. The Rich Should Pay More For equal sacrifice and fairness among citizens, those individuals who benefited from favorable economic times such as boom, rescue packages among others should find it necessary to shoulder the costs that arise from a crisis. There willingness will save the economy from suffering the worst effects of a crisis that a time may spill over to drain resources of the rich. This argument looks at increasing government revenue through an increase in income as well as an increase in capital gains tax. This was illustrated by Germanyââ¬â¢s case after the World War II where legislation was passed which mandated financial compensation to gather for loses that arises during the war. This lead to a creation of tax on property and capital, this law was applicable to individuals who still possess substantial assets after the war. The law required them to pay half of their asset worth to a compensation fund over a period of thirty years. In case of United States, an increase in tax has no chance any time soon. The reason being the required budget consolidation should occur on the expenditure part. This will imply a reduction in government expenditure and this will have adverse effects on the economy. On the other hand, an increase in income tax disproportionately has an effect on higher earners . The impact of high tax on the rich is minimal because large proportions of their income go to savings while minimal amounts are spent (Blinder Baumol, 2011).Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More United States cannot undertake spending cuts since it will adversely affect their growth. This is because the economy is spending less on infrastructure, education and social transfers. For other countries that are facing similar crisis, an increase in government revenue will serve the country better. Therefore, if Americans refuse to contribute more to their economy through tax, they will suffer from a middling economy. Conclusion Taxation as an expansionary fiscal policy is applicable when an economy is facing difficult economic times, where the government spending exceeds its revenue significantly. The current financial and economic crisis has led to increase of tax rates to generate more revenue. The revenue generated is ploughed back to the economy to offset the high standing levels of debts. Increased tax will hurt the economy in terms of reducing the disposable income of consumer and investment income for companies. Individuals will be left with insufficient money to spend he nce a decline in aggregate demand. The rich should make a greater sacrifice to shoulder the costs that have accrued due to a crisis as the low-income earners still pay their tax at the usual lower rates. Poor economic standing of an economy will imply that sectors such as education, health care, communication, physical infrastructure among others will suffer, yet they are the main drivers of economic growth. A good tax system should be developed to realize economic progress. Good taxation we stimulate accumulation of capital stock in the economy in terms of new industries being set up and new technology adopted. This will ensure that the rate of unemployment reduces with a significant margin. Increase the tax rates for the rich will increase the revenue base of a country with the money generated channeled towards job creation in the economy. An economy in a crisis should receive compensation from those who benefited from it during good times such as times of rescue package, social t ransfers and boom. The wealthier should make huge sacrifices in terms of tax payment even though the burden may be overwhelming. A good tax system should act as a magnet for attracting foreign investors through the provision of tax haven for newly established industries. This will encourage foreign investors in the country; hence help in solving the problem of unemployment. References Blinder, A. S., Baumol, W. J. (2011). Macroeconomics: Principles and Policy. Cultural Comparisons Between the Moche of Peru and Shang Dyn essays
Cultural Comparisons Between the Moche of Peru and Shang Dyn essays The first part of this paper will compare two ancient cultures, the Shang Dynasty China and the Moche of Peru. Initially we will look separately at the following aspects of each culture, physical technology, social technology, art and architecture, economy and social organisation. After which, the second part of this essay will consider any similarities and differences of each culture, and then investigate the factors that may account for both those similarities and differences. We will begin with Moche of Peru. The Moche period begins with the decline of the Cupisnique period at about the time of Christ, and disappeared about 700 years before the Incas reached the peak of their power (Online i, ii). The Moche did not conquer the Cupisnique; rather, there was a slow transition characterised by a number of developments such as ceramics, textiles and greatly improved metalwork (Online i). The development of architectural skills allowed the construction of huge pyramids and other structures (Online i). And increased leisure time, sparking art and a highly organised religion (Online i). The Moche were prosperous farmers who raised avocados, corn, peanuts, beans and squash, and some were fishermen who fished for clams and small coastal species (Online i). Along with hunting for deer and seals, the Moche also kept a stockpile of domestic animals like Muscovy Ducks, Guinea Pigs, and Hairless Dogs (Online i). While the Moche of Peru had no written word, they had developed the use of ceramics, and also built structures of clay bricks, stamped with the logo of its maker, and wood from the local Carob Tree (Online i). Although successful for many reasons the most amazing development was their use of irrigation to water the dry coastal plains all the way from the Andes (Online i). This ancient Peruvian culture has left impressive archaeological sites and some rather outstanding pottery (Online i). At one site in particular a 32 metre high p...

Database protection - Essay Example Compilations of data or other material, whether in machine readable or other form, which by reason of the selection or arrangement of their contents constitute intellectual creations shall be protected as such (ââ¬Å"Agreement on Trade-Related.â⬠). The petition filed to the WTO is basically a court hearing, with a judge, lawyers, plaintiff, and defendant. The only difference is that not all of the players in this court case are Americans, but from various countries belonging to the WTO. Whatever the judge decides, the defendantââ¬â¢s country, or America in this case, is left to uphold. If it was proven that the database had been accessed illegally and copies distributed, then America would enforce the penalty, ranging from prison to restitution. Most of the time restitution is the scenario. Let it be noted that only twenty-five cases of intellectual property theft has been petitioned to the WTO (ââ¬Å"Agreement on Trade-Related.â⬠). Another means for the database owner would be to file suit either in American federal or state court where the defendant is from. America has copyright laws for intellectual property. Because of the WTO, every WTO member must have current laws protecting intellectual property, America is no exception. By suing through the American justice system, the database owner could have an injunction placed on the product from the database immediately. American laws would also punish the hacker, if they were found guilty, by restitution or jail time. The two options above all depend on the database owner and where they live. If from a developed country like Russia or one of the European states, it is very likely justice will be done and their database will be protected. However, if from an underdeveloped country, like Cambodia or an African state the database owner will lose their property. One because their country does not have the existing WTO treaty or their country already has sanctions. Two the database owner would not have the

SOCIAL SCIENCE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
SOCIAL SCIENCE - Essay Example Traditionally, there were models like biomedical model, which did not consider the human side of a patient. Jewson (1976, p. 235) analysis that in the biomedical model the ââ¬Å"patientâ⬠was ââ¬Å"designated a passive and uncritical role in the consultative relationship and his main functionâ⬠was to ââ¬Å"endure and wait.â⬠According to Doyal (1983, p.31) in the traditional models ââ¬Å"the disease had become more important than the person who harboured it.â⬠However, there has been a shift to models that consider other factors such as social, psychological and environmental in shaping the context of a disease and illness. An example is the bio-psychosocial which has sought to understand medical conditions through the analysis of a variety of factors. The model acknowledges that in a disease context, there are many factors such as behavior and attitude towards the illness, social as well as psychological factors (Engel, 2012). The narratives from the patient s are today extensively applied to explore the patient experiences with illness (Charon 2001; Kleinman 1988). In this case, the awareness of the binary relationship between disease and illness has revolutionarised the medical practice. This is the difference between the biomedical constructs of the pathophysiological processes and individualââ¬â¢s subjective experience of the patient explored in other models that consider disease as a result of myriad factors (Kleinman 1988). The exploration of patient narrative is relevant in the case of diabetes because patients and physicians have different perceptions, concerns and goals (Anderson 1986; Freeman & Loewe 2000). In this assignment, a patientââ¬â¢s story on her experience with diabetes will be explored with an aim to construct the cultural, social and psychological meaning and locate the facts in contemporary theoretical perspectives. A study into the effectiveness on Homeschooling
A study into the effectiveness on Homeschooling In the information age, knowledge is one of the most powerful forces in society. At the same time, home schooling is becoming increasingly prevalent at an amazing rate. As to the function of it, there is a long-running controversial debate. Some people support that home schooling is a popular alternative to traditional educational environment. However, others stand on a very different ground. This phenomenon is often brought into public focus. As we know, home schooling means children are educated at home. Their parents play a significant role in the teaching tasks. They can be seen as the teachers at school. Since the human produced the family, home schooling was generated. The education that all people receive consists of home schooling with school education and social education. Home schooling happens between family members, because of that, home schooling is initially, lasting and it around the people who are educated. Home schooling has a great influence on human beings. To a large extent, this situation is desirable with its many positive aspects. Home schooling affects childrens physiology and psychology. In the physiological aspect, the families provide the material lives of their children. Families influence childrens growth and can establish childrens life habits, and so on. In the psychological aspect, families could guide the personality of their children. The personality, will and character of children are not inborn: they need to be cultivated by their families, especially in the early stage of education and family environment. Families make the greatest impressions of the growth of their children, and also they are initiative and authoritative. Home schooling could develop the confidence of children. Home schooling is different with school education. Home schooling need children just compare with themselves. During the growth of children, no one has the same life, so the parents should take the advantages and disadvantages as a key point in order to their children grow up. School education has a lot of homework. Excessive homework is encroaching on childrens free time and family time, making it difficult for them to engage in activities that are important for their full development (McReynolds 2007). But home schooling doesnt have homework. Children can do anything what they want to do in the free time. On the other hand, some countries offer some conveniences for home schooling. For example, Canadas government provides all the courses for the different levels of students, so the parents could use these materials to teach their children. Even though these students do not go to school, they still can send their homework to the school office to examine and their results will be kept in the files. The government also takes charge of these students. These students could take part in any public examination and the results will be admitted. Moreover, the most important is the university will acknowledge the results of home schooling. However, some people hold a different attitude, arguing that school education is better than home schooling. Firstly, in the objective of education, school education clearly reflects the requirement of students, and school education is scientific, clear and explicit. Because of that, the purpose of education is always subjective. Secondly, the comparing with the system, school education has its own organization and financial support. The school education has relatively independent system. And it can keep the stability and persistence of education. Nevertheless home schooling cannot achieve that. Thirdly, school education has strong to sense of organization, and home schooling is unable to do that. The comparing school education and home schooling, school education has wider range than home schooling. The students in the school can meet different people from the same age, and they should know how to communicate with each other so as to improve their social skills. However, the students just talk with the people they know in home schooling, they cannot develop their social skills and they might be become unsociable. It is a process that the children grow to an adult. There is a vital feature of process, which could not develop without communicate with companion. Even an excellent adult cannot replace the impact of companionship. Many people presume that a homeschooled child is unhealthily sequestered at home, away from normal social interaction in the broader community (Carlson 2009). Someone may say that the internet is increasing rapidly and home schooling will not have any barriers. It is not true because the internet cannot displace face to face communication, particularly the education of children is active and visualized. It cannot be replaced by machines. Even if the family environment is very good, students cannot realize these experiences when they are in school. School education is more interesting than home schooling. Meanwhile, the school is like a little social, that help children grow up and their abilities can be tested. The abilities and senses of the students are difficult to develop when they graduate from the schools. In my opinion, school education is the education of scientific culture, while home schooling is the education of the life value. To compare both of them, I think home schooling is more effective than school education. A person who does not have a positive outlook on life, on the world and on value, they will not bring benefit to the society. Even if they have scientific culture, they might bring harm to society. For example, some terrorists have high intelligence and are ability to create missiles, this behavior could harm the safety of society. All in all, I admit home schooling also brings disadvantages. For example, home schooling doesnt have its own organization and financial support. But in many aspects, its merits obviously outweigh its drawbacks.
